Lenin points out that the ruling class in Zarist Russia heavily censors any revolutionary material, but curiously they let three editions of Bernstein's book be translated and published into Russian. In a way not unsimilar to how, in our own time, the CIA helped translate and spread post-Marxist French theory as a way to help these anti-Marxist ideas flourish on the left.Lenin then leads into a defense of revolutionary theory, pointing to the fact that communists need to be active in the theoretical sphere as well. It is here that he puts forward his famous line: without a revolutionary theory there can be no revolutionary movement.
