The Rhinoceros of Portugal

This week we're with a fledgling maritime empire in Portugal. The Portuguese established a slender network of stopping points and trading stations. Along that network they carried spices, exotic goods and are rhinoceros. Getting a rhino weighing between one and a half and two tons onto a 16th century ship must have been quite an undertaking. Here he is with Chester's own rhino Babu - sometimes known as the Indian rhino. And we'll be bringing very soon a female from San Diego to be with him.
