The Importance of Creativity in Math
In the Singapore curriculum, they're doing fraction arithmetic quite early, maybe grade even three or four. In my province, it's grade seven or eight. I think we could learn a lot from some of the things that they're doing there. The OECD in their analysis put these two things against each other,. as if you couldn't have both, but there we are. East Asia was all towards the more conceptual meaning-understanding, less memorization officially.
