Dali's relationship with Lorca was built on a deep friendship and mutual admiration. But Lorca was also gay and felt a deeper love for Dali that curiously did not make Dali uncomfortable. Although Dali discovered he wasn't gay after all, I think this early intimacy with Lorca colored his thoughts for the rest of his life. In 1936, when he was told by an assistant of the awful news that Lorca had been assassinated, he would often be heard quoting and reciting the poems of Lorca in various scenarios.
