The Marine Corps Promises to Correct the Record on Friendly Fires
General Robert Magnus, the number two Marine officer at the time, says he wants to correct the record on friendly fires. John Smith is one of those very seriously injured men. The blast blinded him in one eye, peppered him with fragments, tore up his legs. He spent a month in a coma. Eventually, his left leg was amputated above the knee and he was medically retired. But here you have the Marine's second in command dragged up to the hill promising to do better.
