The Pope's Response to the Cathar Heresy
The Pope sent a papal legate to suppress the Cathar heresy and keep an eye on Ramon. Pierre de Castano had little success wrangling Ramon or the Cathars. The day after a contentious meeting with Ramon VI about the Cathars, Pierre was brutally stabbed to death. He excommunicated Ramon VI and declared a holy war against the Albigensians.
