CNN's John Sutter looked at American National Election Studies data for 2012 and 2016 in previous years. He found a huge leap in the leftward direction among Clinton voters, as well as self-identified liberals or white Democrats. General resentment declined to its lowest level on record; he says it was driven by individualist values of "pull yourself up by the bootstraps"
