Bad Bridget focuses on women whose immigrant experience differed considerably from what they might have expected when they left Ireland. Elaine explained the often grinding poverty that was key to understanding why immigrants struggled in the US. Through child protection records we can get a glimpse of living conditions because while these inspectors are called, they visit the homes of Irish immigrants. And then they inadvertently describe the living conditions that these Irish families have.
