Male Prosperity in Female Monogamy
This notion about the naturalness of male promiscuity in female monogamy dates back to darwin. So there was essentially a sort of bias that just meant men, male biologists and scientists, were looking at it simply from their own point of view. We look for evidence to support our beliefs, and we ignore or forget or overlook or suppress any evidence that is discrepant with our beliefs. Now, science is ideally designed to force us to face disconfirming evidence. But scientists are human, and so they have made that same error of confirmation bias that everybody else does. And you see this dramatically in the study of sexual behavior.
