The Importance of Freelancing
I was 22 years old at the time, I wanted to be a journalist and started freelancing. For me that was the first time when I really threw myself into something which was different from my own. To this day I think that for journalism too you have to go right down into the heat and in the dust. Here I am many decades on, I'm still working for the BBC still and still I wake up every day and think wow I'm so lucky.
