What Is a Vegetative State?
A vegetative state is a neurological condition in which one, at least one of the two cardinal elements of consciousness are affected. A coma is er a circumstance where a patient doesn't have any awareness of him or herself and also does not appear to be awake. Iis very easy for me to tell if a patient is in a coma or in a vegetative state, because the eyes are either open, ind a vegetestat, or at least open and closed. What is really difficult is how do i know that a patient who's awake has regained that little bit of consciousness sufficient for me to say, ah, the patient is now, is now at least minimally conscious?
