Listening to a Community

The idea of listening and being more attuned to what the public needs is important. What does it mean for a generalist to listen to a community to be more connected, and to serve a community? I think some examples and some of these examples that I mentioned in the book go back to maybe some of the traditions of even something like public journalism or civic journalism in the US. Those ideas of tunnel meetings where people come and speak and listen are one sort of listening practice. But I think those are often maybe difficult to arrange, not always necessarily successful.
