What Is Common Law?

Law evolved over an extremely long period of time, it's not the judges that make the law. In our system, you don't have the courts organized into a hierarchical fashion until the late nineteenth century. Decisions are made by the jury. Judges sometimes make decisions at the appellate level. The basic rules of law that govern our society involve in a decentralized system where disputes are settled in te way that makes the most sense.
