Until Einstein, people thought of time and space as fixed, unchanging. He revealed that time and space themselves are elastic and mutable. Time, space, matter, gravity, and light are all intertwined. They curve and collapse and change in response to each other. Such insights gave rise to the grand ideas that occupy physicists today.
