Lewis was critical of T.S. Eliot's poetry, and that kind of carried over to being critical of him as well. But when they met, Eliot was so kind of gracious to him that Lewis warmed quickly to Eliot. You can make the same process with Americans. As he met so many Americans coming across and discovered that his main audience for a while was Americans, or at least the large proportion of his audience. Yeah. I think his attitude softened quite a bit.
