The Importance of a Shared Care Record

When I started with Queen Alexandra Hospital in renal unit, my department was left without any IT lead for about 2 years because of the cost cutting and redundancy etc. The problem was that the system were not talking to each other. So what I really wanted for my consultants and nurses is to have a system where all medically relevant information about the patient is in one place. That's how I discovered the shared care record. And I was in awe of this system which integrated all the data from 180 GB practices, five hospitals and a number of councils.
