There are massive career incentives within the political arena to spout conventional wisdom. If you want to marginalize yourself, if you want to put your career in jeopardy, the fastest way to do that is to be an iconic class and contradict the conventional wisdom. We have a lot of people who are just willing to go along with the prevailing flow, even though they may suspect this is a bad, bad idea. And we're not willing to speak out against it and jeopardize their professional futures.
