I find first drafts are Paulingly hard to do but I try to overcome that by developing a note-taking practice so that I take short notes on things that read or try to write. Sometimes if I'm stuck, I say I will write 10 minutes just without stopping stream of consciousness on this topic and then see if there's anything. It's amazing what you can find if you then vaguely search in it once you have some notes. The first third of any project is just ghastly and very hard but then you just have to persist.
