The Importance of Deep Sleep for the Brain

During slow wave sleep, you have these events called sharp wave ripples. They're little fast, spiky events during what your brain actually seems to be replaying things that it experienced during the day in order. And then during REM sleep, we'll always hear about this as something where we're more likely to experience and remember dreams,. But it's also a place where a lot of learning takes place and consolidation of memory. So I think if you're a creative person, one of the most motivating reasons to get sleep is to allow yourself to do that cognitive taking out the trash.
