What's It Like in School for You?
I was afraid of telling my parents what was happening to me because i wanted to protect them, which is what we do as kids. I think that actually, fear is what the culprit is on both sides. What i've been trying to introduce with my parents now is like, i see your complexity and your humanity. You see mine. Let's not default into these roles. And once we put that on the table, that's when we can work through it. It's so easy to retreat into mam child like, into the roll, and not the person. They don't even ask themselves just about what just happened? Because they've denied themselves a higher way of navigating the world
