The Energy Costs of Cultivated Meat

Cultured meat has a large combined carbon footprint. Ingredients like sugars, amino acids and vitamins are very energy intensive to make. They have to be ultra-pure to be used in the growth medium that the animal cells are cultured in. This requires these really energy intensive methods like ultra filtration and chromatography. When factored into the production of lab grown meat, they found its global warming potential would be four to 25 times higher than that of beef.
