The City's Decision to Close the Atlanta Jail

In June 2020, Bottoms and other Atlanta council members voted to close the city jail. The move was in response to protests over a police shooting of an unarmed black man. A task force offered four options for what would happen to the jail's interior if it had to be shut down. In that same summer, thousands of residents called in for public comment on proposed budget cuts at City Council meetings.
