Aphrodite - The Goddess of Sex Work in Ancient Greece
Aphrodite was thought to be the god of mixis, of mixing things up. She is honored by er women who will go to her temple and be paid to have sex. That payment is then offered as a tribute to the goddess and taken by the priests in the temple complex. And i think that's probably why she ends up being connected with prostitutes because she was physically in charge of the places where they operated. But there's also this kind of interesting line of inquiry about sacred prostitutes, of sacred sex workers in the temples of aphrodite.
