The Importance of Ambition in the Senate
In Madison's notes, a lot of times we picture the Constitution is just well, it was bound to end up the way it did. There are quite a number of delegates who argued for something like this for a kind of quasi aristocratic body with lifetime appointments. Others who advocated this did so because they just trusted wealthy elites more than the common people. Morris interestingly wanted this precisely because he didn't trust them.
