Programming Languages - What Are Your Promises and What Do You Provide?
In the old days a program was completely self-sufficient. Almost used no libraries, ran on one processor and knew everything. And now a program is just a dot in a big picture of the system. It's more important for an architect to be talking about the schema of their database than it is about types in any programming language. We need more of that.
