In the 19th century, Boston merchant Frederick Tudor started cutting ice off of a nearby pond in Cambridge and sending it to Caribbean islands. Ice is this thing that some people can get cut off mountains delivered to rich people, but it's only in the last 200 years that it's become relatively common to be able to eat things that are cold anytime of year.
