Chess is a beautiful game, and i think studying it is different than being addicted to it. When i was younger, it was base the cliche things: learn openings really well and study puzzles and tactics. Now you do, you have to know a lot more like chess. A 22 hundred rated player now is much stronger then a thousand mada player was 25 years ago. There's a thousand madea player now who does puzzle rush and watches some streams for openings. Many people are using computerised programmes that teach them micro skills. And in every way, when you come back to the game,  you're at a disadvantage.
