Ethics and Economics in Mass Democratic Politics

This chapter explores the relationship between ethics and economics in mass democratic politics, contrasting modern democracy's focus on material equality with 19th-century liberals' emphasis on formal equality. It discusses the views of different thinkers on material equality and their political ideologies, as well as historical examples of revolutionaries' attempts to exemplify moral conduct in a society of equals.
