I Don't Ask for Help, They Can't Dismiss Me

The child's decision to go it alone is really a desperate attempt to avoid further evidence that no one is there for him or her. The thinking is this, if I don't ask for help, then they can't dismiss me. It goes like this, mom is either not going to understand me, or worse, she's going to dismiss me.
