In aristotle people believe they deserve to be shown great respect by those who are inferior to them in family, an power and virtue. He gives himself some more prosaic, or ina less achical examples. At the bottom of one 92, and top of one 93 he says, people are angry when their feelings are hurt. All this hierarchical status stuff suffuses social relations as far as i'm concerned.
