The Impact of Droughts on Ecosystems

Droughts particularly can have a massive knock on impact to ecosystems, and that's not necessarily just aquatic ecosystems. So the Environment Agency have been out in recent weeks pumping oxygen into rivers. It takes people by surprise that after a drought, after weeks or even months of no rain, suddenly they find themselves flooded. The reason for this is actually to do with the fact that the soil is not in a state that it can absorb water. And so we have drought literally one day and then we can have intense flooding 24 hours later.
