The Importance of Memorial Day

Michael Lombardi: Memorial Day is a time to reflect on the men and women who may be ultimate sacrifice. A story by David Blight talks about a situation in Charleston, South Carolina that really was the start of Memorial Day. The former slaves, whites and blacks got together and held a ceremony led by all the former black slaves and their children as they marched through town. They built an arch way to basically honor the dead there.
