Every computer or personal computer has a cache hierarchy of essentially how distant is this piece of memory that I want to get? The least distance are registers, which are right there in the CPU. There's level two cache, which is cheaper, larger, but more distant. And then you get RAM, which is way bigger, much more quote unquote distant because it's at the other end of a bus and leads to someplace else in the same package. John: Apple could have external DRAM and slots, but also RAM on the CPU. That dedicated RAM would just be used for disk.
