Central Banks and the Global Financial Crisis

The standard story is that central banks just didn't see it coming and the argument that I make is that there is at least a complementary important aspect. The way in which they would conduct inflation targeting monetary policy was an integral part of this market based system as I explained. And so that's the other side of the coin is that through these kind of money market relationships but also through these market economic governance relationships central banks were not just blind they actually were an integral part to an increasingly financializing economy.
