The Importance of Tipping
There's no federal law saying that you need to pay 20% above the price of your sandwich or your latte. Instead, tipping is socially expected and often unexplained in discrete, clear, concrete terms. Even when you see suggested tip amounts at the bottom, it usually starts at 20% and goes up to 25 and 30 for the max.
