Labor rejected the coalition's proposal to double the income-free area for job seeker. It would have allowed job seekers to earn up to $300 a fortnight before the payment is reduced. 77% of people on job seeker don't actually use the income- free area that is already there, says Tony Abbott. But addressing barriers such as foundation skills or discrimination could help them get into work and secure well-paid work, he adds.
