The Doodled Development by Beethoven

The development lasts 101 measures, and there are two that do not feature the dotted rhythm. Beethoven gives the cut version to the strings and keeps the longer version in the winds. This is a piece that is dominated by joy. Other than the second movement, there are almost no clouds to be found here,. except in this section. It is at this moment that beethoven finds some anxiety, some power, some terror. And so it builds to a catastrophic moment where this issue is hammered out - quite literally.
