The Role of Marriage in India
Women's primary economic security is to be found in a marriage, says Mary Rajni. Marriage as an institution is necessary to maintain that gender contract, she adds. In India you must marry within your caste and take into account various community rules - this is central to maintaining cast and community lines. Despite all this about marriage as an institution and control of elders, young boys and girls have desires for sexual experience or a sexual relationship, writes Ms Rajni.
