Reflexive Ampathy Is Not a Moral Virtue
When is reflexive ampathy useful? That's easy. You're a mother, your child is under six months old, reflexive am empathy is the right reaction. But unreflexive ampathy is not a moral virtue. Just because you feel sorry for someone, you are not a good person. Morality is much more complexh mere reflex of ampathy. And i think that that's why it's such a powerful motivating force as well.
