CHAPTER

The Nature of Prayer in the Midst of Uncertainty

In your essay, you talk about prayer in the midst of uncertainty. I thought that was fascinating. And i do think human beings pray every day in lots of different ways. You don't have to be a religious person or belong to a faith community to pray. So if we got what we prayed for, it wouldn't be a prayer any more. The element of the prayer is that it's is itits unfurled in a condition of radical uncertainty. That, i think, is what the essence of prayer is. It's a kind of a openness. and by god, that takes courage, trulyto pray.
