The Siege of Paris in 885 to 86
A huge viking fleet of several hundred ships and thousands of warriors arrived at the growing town of paris in 885. The vikings laid siege to the city for several months through the winter into 886 but they were unable to breach the walls. Over the course of months some vikings lost interest broke away and started to raid downriver closer to the mouth of the sen. In october 886 after almost a year of siege and standoff king charles the fat finally arrived with his army so he paid them off to leave and to attack burgundy which was currently in a state of rebellion against him. This final deal with the vikings was very unpopular and not surprisingly
