The Importance of a Large Time Period

The year 1900 is significant for three reasons. It was the year that Friedrich Nietzsche dies and around the same time, possibly a couple of weeks before or after, a similarly preeminent English figure in philosophy died as well. Not very far from where you are now, I think, Miles in Sussex, Gilbert Ryle, founding and central figure of this tradition is born. The next volume will come at some point maybe. A couple of people's going all the way back to John Lockers and one of the earliest English speaking author whose prose I can actually understand. And JL Austin was just about 48 years old when he wrote his famous essay on God which has since been translated into German
