I see these rituals as agency augmented augmentation strategies so we live in a world that's constantly trying to thwart our agency. So you're like literally fixing the spell the spell with a with a nail and this is thought to activate it in some sense. The Greek term is more so to me to tie down to bind so there's sometimes called binding spells. And again you can kind of think of the evocative sense of okay I'm binding this person I'm tied them up with cords.
