Is There a Monthly Inflation Gauge in Australia?
Inflation is going to peak in Australia probably in the fourth quarter of this year but those figures don't even get reported until February 2023. So I think moving to a monthly gauge probably does make sense. The Reserve Bank doesn't meet in January, it meets in February and it won't know what's going on unless we have that more timely reporting. But many observers think the Reserve Bank was being in catch up mode to tame inflation. They say it's left interest rates too low for too long. It must have been difficult to plan ahead when we hit a pandemic that no one really knew what was going to happen.
