Phantom Dark Energy

Most cosmologists do not think that the big rip is going to happen. Phantom Dark Energy breaks certain rules about energy conditions, so it's probably not viable as a scenario. All we can say is that when we look at how the universe is evolving now, we can say that the big Rip is almost certainly not going to happen within the next, say, 200 billion years.
