GitHub is a system that works, so they're not touching it kind of feels like to me. There were issues open where they citly said, no, we don't want to support features of gint. But as far as the worrying about tags, that's not something you really got to worry about. If somebody rewrites their git history, than that should produce an error because you have a package lock. You can know that if a git hash is changed, that's a very tiny amount of information.
