The Children of the Atolls Have It at Its Best
Many of the boys had water glasses and small spears of their own, and went far from shore catching fish. They lay face down on the surface of the water, swimming easily, with a great economy of motion. When they saw their prey they dived after it as skillfully as their fathers do,. The whole village would assemble to hear me play. I liked to hear the same tunes played over and over again. It was strange to find those songs, belonging fortunately to a bygone period in English and American life, living still in that remote part of the world.
