But i doubt that he made such a blanket promise. I think more likely what he said is, look, we have no intention of attacking you now. That's true. And if we ever find ourselves in a crisis, you will know that we are crisis, and we'll both know we're in a crisis,. which is also a reasonable thing to say. So i suspect that he said something like that, rather than the precise wording as reported in a woodward and costa.
