The Atlanticists' View of Europe

West European politics and geopolitics has been always predicated on a German Europe. The Atlanticists view, which is basically Britain and the Americans once they got involved in big politics, have been obsessed by keeping Germany and Russia apart. So it's this weird sort of symbiotic relationship right at the heart of Europe that it's characterized by invasions, by fights, by apocalyptic catastrophes. And the most natural alliance in Europe is an alliance between that country that has loads of energy and no industry, and that country thathas loads of industry and no energy, Germany and Russia.
