The Problem With General Purpose AI
I like to talk about the geopolitical implications of, you know, how we regulate algorithmic systems and the various AI bills. But before we do that, maybe because you got this amazingly powerful metaphor that you use for your mind, maybe we can use that as a way into thinking about some of the downsides. So the issue with general purpose AI is that our intelligence is what gives us power over the world, right, and power over all the other species. As Alan Turing pointed out in 1951, we should have to expect the machines to take control. We're making things more powerful than us. How on earth are we going to have power over things morepowerful than us forever? Right
